Research Methods of Theatrical Costume: Ukrainian Experience

The purpose of the article includes theoretical context theatrical costume research. After all, correctly selected and systematically organised methods provide a scientific basis, therefore success in discourse. Classical art history that arose 19th century were chosen order to realise outlined goal. Those nowadays have not lost their relevance, namely, formal-stylistic, iconographic, iconological since we interested possibility application for study stage costume. used primarily aimed identify common algorithm separate narrow subject By applying historical-comparative typological approaches above-mentioned methods, universal possibilities revealed, thus undiscovered potential process performing analysis novelty is evidenced by elaboration content each three specified supported historical facts-examples from costumes performances staged different years Ukraine. conclusions are based on step-by-step classical performance. formal gives comprehensive description its components, colour, silhouette, architecture. Iconography opens up opportunities classification as an elementary arrangement concepts, motifs, themes. Iconology allows extend scale take next step through synchronic or diachronic contextuality.
